Exercise, appropriate diet, a good mental attitude, and, if necessary, insulin or an antidiabetes agent are the fundamentals of diabetes control. In Chapter 4 we discussed diet; here we turn our attention to exercise and how this aspect of your treatment interacts with those of diet and medication.
Your doctor will discuss with you the importance of balancing these factors and recommend appropriate forms of exercise on a regular basis. Jogging in the park, walking, playing racquetball, bicycling, windsurfing, dancing, playing sandlot baseball-choose your favorite and help your physician design a routine that will be both helpful in controlling your diabetes and enjoyable.
